  • It's to bad there aren't more vendors

By now 2015 , there should be aluminum radiators, custom A frames , easy tach wiring hook up for 6 volt systems , billet aluminum hood hinges for the C& K body style , and gas tanks readily available , edelbrock intake manifolds for 4 barrels , all of these items should be for the C& K body style 1953 thru 1964 , the high performance industry has left the Studebaker hawks and !953 thru 1964 cars left out in the cold ... If you want to add to list , feel free........... It's been a long time for all this to go unnoticed..... Sometimes I'm just disappointed .. I'm going back to my arm chair ... feel free to add to the List.....

If there is money to be made there then get out of that arm chair and get er done!
    You may be onto something!

They are out there, but when most see the direct fit price they recoil in horror and park the car rather than pay into the market place.
There all kinds of examples of vendors risking capital trying to pry cash from the Studebaker crowd with limited success...there are exceptions.

Welcome to Classic Enterprises where we manufacture restoration car and truck parts for the Studebaker Avanti, Coupe, Hawk, Lark, pre-Lark post-war Sedan, C-cab pickup and T-cab pickup; also Jeep, Willys and the Ford Fairlane 500 retractable and convertible. Visit us at http://www.classicent.com. Reproductions are of the same gauge steel as the original in most applications, or a heavier gauge wherever the original component was too light for its application.

That's NOT a bad price for the radiators. I've looked into getting the radiator recored for my 52, and it's in that ballpark.

The prototype of the STU-1053 is the one here in the Saturday Night Special. I worked with them on this one. Just got it out for test. As posted today I have only ran it with sheet metal off. It will idle all day at 180 right now. I will post when I get it out run with front sheet metal on.

This is an unfortunate example. Two places made hard earned money from a Studebaker owner where if one had contacted someone from the club, he would have saved cash. I have a friend that presently has a 62 Cruiser. It needed brakes. Long story short, even though I had spent a lot of time helping him with repairs, he just went to a local shop & spent over $1500 on a 4 wheel Drum Brake repair. Overcharged? For sure! With less spent he could have upgraded to front disc's instead of overpaying for used front drums, among other things. Would he have gotten the same results if he had asked on the forum? I strongly doubt that. But he would have solid, reliable information on what to do. This is what happens when someone like in the case of my friend, is told to join the club or at least, come into here & learn.

Many people get an idea in their head (or a burr in their saddle) and cannot be talked out of it. Thinking outside the box is rare.

I think the key here is that we have to understand that demand for Studebaker related parts is no where close to the demand for many other makes of classic cars. Sheer production figures tell the story. We simply cannot expect to find replacement, or newly developed, parts for prices that Chevy or Ford owner get. That said there are vendors as mentioned earlier that are developing some very interesting stuff for our cars. If you want that to continue buy such parts without complaining about the prices. They simply have to be higher. Now there are parts, such as aluminum radiators, out there that work great in most Studebakers. We just have to be aware of what is out there.

As is seen in Warren's comments, there are folks out there that really think owning a Studebaker would be cool (we can't argue with that can we?) but then ignore advice about fixing stuff on their Studebakers and end up being upset about the outcome. I have seen, as many of you have, this happen time after time. All we can do is the best we can.
