  • 58 Studebakers from Metrolink in L.A.

Long time lurker, first time poster...

I ride the Metrolink train every other day from Los Angeles Union Station to Northridge in the valley. Like most (all!) of you, I keep my eye out for Studes. Here are two that I saw that I just had to post.

The first is a Packard Hawk behind a shop near Bob Hope/Burbank Airport. It looks like it's somebody's project, but I've never seen anyone work on it (the pictures are on Webshots, so I can't post them in this message):

The second is a 58 Commander/President hardtop sitting in an impound/insurance lot near Van Nuys airport. I'm really curious about this one and why it's there. At some point I'm going to go to this place and ask about it. It's at the corner of Schlitz St. and Woodman Ave. in Panorama City (near Van Nuys):

Like I said, I have no idea what the story with this one is. Somebody go check it out ASAP!

Yikes Scott, that '58 Pres. looks to be in good shape and it's in an impound lot! My first clue: the late model burned, probably stolens!

Hi Scott! Glad you got aboard here. Are you still doing that customized Lark you were working on?

        Miscreant adrift in
        the BerStuda Triangle

        1957 Transtar 1/2ton
        1960 Larkvertible V8
        1958 Provincial wagon
        1953 Commander coupe

No deceptive flags to prove I'm patriotic - no biblical BS to impress - just ME and Studebakers - as it should be.

            Mr. Biggs.

I still have the Lark, but I haven't worked on it in awhile. It needs some welding done on it and I'm still in the process of learning how to do it. Good news - I'll be getting the HT out of storage soon and will be working on it.

I bought another Studebaker in the meantime - a 63 Wagonaire. I'm converting it to a 64/65 Daytona. I really do need to stop stealing parts off the 60 for it though! I'm going to be posting info on the Wagonaire in another post soon.

                StudeRich,

The 58 HT looks really good. So good in fact that I thought somebody (John Poulos) was transporting and storing it. Is it a repo? I don't know. I'm still not sure what the story on this lot is - I only see it from the back!

Can somebody buy this car? Is it heading to the crusher (shudder)?

                ?????????????

I might be wrong.. But that "58 looks alot like one that was on ebay awhile back..
Seems to me that it was the same color.. If I remember correctly, the one on ebay had a "salvage title" and it was advertised as another model Stude..
                    Lark possibly??

Scott, any idea what the name of that yard is - where that hardtop sits? I'd make a move on it if I had a clue as to where to call.

BTW, I'm still pickin' away at this '63 Wagonaire here - anything you need?

That 58 Commander HT looks a lot like the "Where's the fence" commercial car that was on ebay before Christine.
