Yep...the speaker goes behind there...might even still be there if the P.O. just pulled the radio for repair and never put it back in.Comment

On '56 - '57 Hawk radios, the speaker was actually incorporated in to the lower radio chassis. The three slots were indeed for speaker sound, although the speaker did not literally attach to the back side of the dash panel.Comment
