Any opinions about the BEST adapter to use to put a GM 200 4R behind a Hawk 289. There seem to be all kinds of arraingments for sale out there...

The one from Phil at Fairborn Studebaker is very good.

I only know of one from Fairborn.
What other ones have you found?

Howard's parts in Omaha he and Frank Van Dorn are venders and and in the club.

Myer's Studebaker also sells a transmission adapter. A friend just used a Fairborn kit to replace a Myer's kit in a local Stude.

Howard's parts in Omaha he and Frank Van Dorn are venders and and in the club.

I don't know about the transmission adapters, but John and Frank recently sold their parts inventory.

We are still selling adapters and blower tension springs but have sold the rest of our Studebaker parts inventory. Contact me by private message for info on our adapters. Thanks.

I've got Franks (41 Frank) adapter kit installed in in my 54 Conestoga.
While it did need a little starter "clearancing" to get the starter to fit flush, it's a nicely done package.
I would not hesitate to buy another if required.

P.s. - You most probably will need to remove the upper (BOP) "ears" from the trans case to clear the floor/firewall. Best just to do in on the floor now rather than have to try to put the trans. in the car, only to have to remove it and THEN cut the ears off..!
Cut, file smooth, deburr, clean, install.

I have Frank's adapter connecting a 259 with a 700R4 in my M5 pickup and it works great. It uses a F*rd Bronco starter. I like the idea that the starter is available at any auto parts store. I also have the adapter from Phil Harris for a Chevy 4 speed for our 53 race car. That also works great.

I am using Frank's adapter w/ TH400 and it works great. The only issue I had is the starter size. The only PMGR replacement I could find was a cheap overseas piece and not worth the money to ship it over here. The starter Frank recomends works great but it is full size (4" dia.) if that enters into your application.
