  • Another oddball question.

Doing a little cleanup in my shop today, and ran across a pair of swap meet finds: a Sun Model CB12 "Volt-Ampere Tester", and a Sun Model CL Alternator Tester.

The latter seems to be nothing more than an AC voltmeter with a switch so it can measure 1, 2, or three-phase voltage. That would seem to limit it's usefulness when it comes to working on modern automotive alternators with internal diodes, as there is no convenient point to tie onto the AC circuitry.

Anybody have an idea where I might get manuals for these items?

      Cool, Erin.

I followed that link and downloaded a .pdf file for the Sun VAT-20, which is a pretty similar unit. I'll check it out on the M-16 truck I have here. I'm not so concerned with the alternator tester, as I can't see any way to directly connect to the stator on most alternators. It must have been designed to service the old industrial and military alternators that used an external selenium rectifer stack.
