  • Pleasant surprise at Potomac Chapter Fall Picnic

The Potomac Chapter had their Fall Picnic today at the Washington County Agricultural Center near Hagerstown, Maryland. The food line had pretty well wrapped up when a '28 Victoria wheeled in. Needless to say, most men dashed out to check out the car as none had seen it before. This car was a true barn find. New chapter member Terry Owen of Williamsport, MD (about eight miles from the picnic) had gone looking for old cars for making street rods. He found this Victoria in a barn two miles from where we were holding our picnic. Fortunately, recognizing the rarity and significance of the car, he decided to restore it true to its heritage. With the restoration only partially done he took the car to the St Louis International and got a first place. He then drove the car from St Louis to Indiana then to Kentucky then on home to Maryland. He said the car ran and handled well and had a "better than Cadillac" ride. When I asked him how he got along with the mechanical brakes he said that they could throw you through the windshield.
Otherwise, with a cool, clear day we had a pretty good people attendance and a dozen or so nice Studebakers were lined up for park visitors to admire. We would have had one more, but Bill Morgan's stunning '47 Champion convertible decided it didn't want its starter solenoid to click this morning.

That's cool Paul. I remember when the owner just purchased the 28 and came on here asking about the car. There is an older post somewhere on the forum with pictures when it was purchased.
