I was at Carlisle fall car show today. It was a little wet, but lots of nice
overpriced cars there. I saw 5 Studebakers. A '63 cruiser for $8,500
'59 P/U for $8,900
'50 commander mild custom for $20,000
'63 GT Hawk for $17,900
'60 Lark Convertable for $13,500
On the way home I found a '58 Commander 4 door on a car lot. The lot was closed, and there was no price on the car. If anyone is interested, I could check it out monday and see what he wants for it.

Wow, either Stude prices are rising, or I am not making enough money.
Or .. maybe its both.

Wow, I took almost the same pics, Was there Friday..

The Lark Convert had a SBC engine and was there last Spring, same spot too. The 63 Cruiser, likewise, in the Spring and now sports an aluminum radiator. GT Hawk had low miles but evidence of a recent make-over...
A couple McCullochs were laying around also, one for 350, other 750

I'm still wondering what that color is!?! I want that for the 60

Prices are going up because of the investment guys and ebay. I just got a call on my Avanti on ebay. They guy did not know anything about Studebakers, wanted to know if the 63 was a "real" Avanti, he didn't know it was made of fiberglass and so on. He did know they were listed as one of the cars to buy as a investrment.

:( Dang, I hate it when that starts happenning. People who buy cars for the "investment" should be gently guided back into real estate where they belong!

It's people like that that ruin the hobby for those of us that really DO love cars. :([V]:(

Well, he hit the Buy It Now on the Avanti and it's going to one of his homes in Florida or Georgia. The good news is it'll be stored inside, and I think he may drive it a bit, maybe become a fan. He may try to win my GT Hawk too, his wife thinks it's pretty. You have to admit it's more fun then coins or the stock market.:)

How does one become filty rich like that other then inheriting it? I
guess maybe drug running, or prostitution? I know that my college
degree certainly wont ever get me there. I am not Italian, so I can
not join the Mafia. Hummm. Maybe I could win the Lotto?? Yah right!

Yah, I hope thats true. I can't help but to get a little discouraged
when I watch the Barret Jackson auctions and see people throwing down
more money on a 1969 Camaro then I paid for my house! It also doesnt
help to live in an area of the country that you are surrounded by rich
snobs, that bought after the prices shot up. Then people assume you
are also rich also. Its good to see that Studebakers are finally in
the collector car cycle again. So its not all bad.;)

You guys are doing it all wrong. What I did was, instead of working on my first million, I decided to start on my second million first.
Makes sense doesn't it:D?
Actually, I'm retired and enjoying it.
Regarding the overpriced cars at shows, this has been going on for some time now. The car corrals are notorious for this. The sellers are out to get whatever the market will bear. If you attend the Heshey meet in October, you'll see many foreign attendees with money to spend. This is another reason for the higher prices. To them, everything here is a bargain, due to the exchange rate.
As far as investors go, fortunately, they're in the minority. Most of us who buy vintage cars are in it for the fun of driving them. Unfortunately, it's the investors who drive the prices up by overpaying.

I agree, Rog. The biggest problem is that people see those insane prices on TV and think that ol' Stude sedan that's been out in the back lot with the windows busted out for 30 years MUST be worth a fortune; and call the local old car maniac (me) to cash in... then when I make a more than fair- but realistic- offer, they get offended...[V]

Ehh, goes with the territory...;)
