  • Serial number location on a late '40's Commander

Was it located in the engine compartment or door jam?

    Thanks in advance!

It was riveted to the frame rail, just behind the left front wheel.

Matthew; The location was changed very early in the 1940 model year. All except a very few 1940 Champions that had it on the frame all other 1940 models had the serial plate on the left front door hinge pillar. The engine number was on a machined pad at the upper left front of the cylinder block.

Here is a photo of a 1940 President with the serial plate as Mr. Quinn describes

Have owned about 20 1940 Studebakers (currently four) so that looks a bit familiar.
