As noted in the following early advertisement, Power WAGON was used to describe a horseless powered wagon.

Indeed, it seems Dodge used the term for a model of their truck.
If they did that when the broad term was common, it would have been similar to a new Dodge truck model called "Truck", rather than a new Dodge truck model called Ram, etc. (emblems and advertisement calling it truck might not be so impressive).
The magazine that had the following ad was called Power Wagon to be geared toward the commercial truck owners of all types and models.
I suppose if Chevy comes out with a new model called "Car", they could benefit when anyone mentions buying, or owning a new car.
