    "November 25, 1951: Frank Mundy closes out NASCAR's third season with a victory at Lakeview Speedway, a three-quarter-mile dirt track in Mobile, Ala. Mundy's Studebaker leads all 150 laps. Tim Flock finishes second and Red Duvall third."

    Frank won three NASCAR races in his Commander that year and, yes, ran in front at Lakeview from pole to checker! I'm happy to own an example of the car he ran.

      Frank won three NASCAR races in his Commander that year and, yes, ran in front at Lakeview from pole to checker! I'm happy to own an example of the car he ran.

                I think it does.

                That was Studebaker's downfall in the early years of NASCAR: The factory simply wouldn't sponsor or support the efforts of early racers wanting to campaign Studebakers. It was left to local dealer organizations -or even individual dealers- to do so...and we know what happened to their fortunes as the 50s wore on!

                Even Hudson had the brains to listen to Marshall Teague and others when they showed up in Detroit with proposals for "export" equipment for Hudsons. Even though Hudson stumbled and ultimately failed because they didn't develop a V-8 engine, who knows how much steeper their fall would have been without their astonishing NASCAR record from 1951-1954? BP

                    Hadn't seen a bullet nose stock car before.

                    Back when "stock cars" were really stock...window glass, door handles, bumpers, bullet in the front....
                    I wonder how today's NASCAR drivers would do back in the old days...

                      Back when "stock cars" were really stock...window glass, door handles, bumpers, bullet in the front....
                      I wonder how today's NASCAR drivers would do back in the old days...

                        I saw Frank run that Stude on the 1/2 mile track at the Monroe County Fairgrounds near Rochester NY in 51. That sucker was faster than Fonty Flock's 88 until the right front spindle broke. Actully all of the OHV V-8s broke before the 250 laps were done leaving Lee Petty's flathead 6 still running in first at the end.
                        Real cars back then not the repliracers of today.

                            I remember meeting Frank Mundy many years ago. Quite a guy with a lot of stories. Is he still alive? Someone should record his memories (and that goes for a lot of other people whose history is mostly in their head).
