  • First Station Wagon?

We have a 1954 Champ wagon. I was wondering when Studebaker first started making station wagons. Thanks for the help!

First in late 1800s (horse drawn). Later in c1916-17. Some early woodies with Cantrell bodies c1931. First "woody" 1937 on the Dictator chassis. First all steel 1954. I wrote a comprehensive illustrated article on the topic a few years back.

I was tempted to respond but knew those with greater specific information (specifically Mr. Quinn) would provide more resounding facts.
There is a Spanish American War horse drawn Studebaker Ambulance in the Pennsylvania Military Museum in Boalsburg, PA. Looks like it never saw service.

I always loved the fact that Studebaker named the '54 wagon the Conestoga. How fitting.

The earlier (immediate previous) wagons (such as those built by Cantrell, etc.), were pickup truck based, but not by 1960, the first Studebaker Champ. I guess that we all know that he means a Studebaker Champion car model. I too, dislike this error, especially among Studebaker people. [I realize that your post was a tongue in cheek attempt at humor.]

Thanks Richard for the info.. I thought there might have been a late 40s wagon.
