  • From the archives #152 (1931 car upside down)

Some may have heard of Edwards Iron Works who did lots of commercial car conversions for Studebaker (truck bodies, trailers etc). They were located about 8 blocks south of the plant on South Main (became COPCO later). They performed this magic in 1931. Just curious as to how Mr. Kincaid got it back on its wheels w/o damage once he arrived back in Champaign? That is the Studebaker Administration Building in the background. Car is a '31 model 54 Six.

Lift the car, with a crane, from its rear (axle). When the car gets to near vertical, push the front past center (manually) and lower the car onto its wheels.

      Richard,
That's a neat picture and innovative too. I agree that it's the administration building in the background. It's still a beautiful building.
