Nice article. Keeping the Studebaker name in the public eye.

I agree. The Economist, that's a serious international periodical. Lots of exposure for the marque's name, at least and what they describe in the article isn't inaccurate and describes thousands of US cities' situations.

Yes and no on the "no inaccuracies," in that there are several. At the least:

        1. Studebaker went into receivership, not bankruptcy.

        2. By now, everyone on this forum should know that Lincoln did not ride to Ford's theater in a Studebaker-manufactured carriage, although it is now part of the permanent collection at The Studebaker National Museum.

        3. The author's claim that South Bend's skyline is dominated by, "vast derelict Studebaker buildings" is simply false, in that so many of them, particularly the worst ones, have been demolished. If anything, the landscape is dominated by acres of vast green scrub grass where Studebaker facilities used to be.

Several of the posted comments correct those, but there are more errors in the comments about the automobile industry. At least the author isn't responsible for those. BP
We've got to quit saying, "How stupid can you be?" Too many people are taking it as a challenge.
