  • Stude sighting in Niagara Falls

Last Saturday was a busy one for several of us in the Hamilton area; Badenoch swap meet in the first part of the day, then Steve and Kathy Porter, myself, my dad and my brother were meeting up and carpooling to Niagara Falls to one of the casino theatres to catch singer Art Garfunkel in concert in the evening. We deliberately left Aldershot, where the Porters live, early, in order to find somewhere in the Falls to eat dinner before the concert; we were starting to have trouble finding a place open, but then I spied an old truck beside a pizzeria parking lot, with a big tomato in the bed. Hey, is that what it looks like, thought I...and indeed it was: a 1949-50 2R, the fourth such truck I'd seen that day (there having been no fewer than three of the ilk at Badenoch). Clearly that was meant to be our dining location, so Zappi's Pizzeria it became; both dinner and the concert were excellent..

Steve , that truck has been there for about 6 years now ! Alway pisses me off when I drive by . I know the previous owner ( when the truck was nice ) this guy who owns the restaurant bought it from him with the intention of just using it for a sign , exactly where it sits , slowly fading into the asphalt , that was such a nice truck??

What a shame! He could have purchased a clapped out shell slapped some Home Depot paint on it and had a nice sign. Instead he's letting a looks to have been nice truck rot away.
Better yet he should have used a Ford, Dodge, or Chevrolet!

someone should offer the Pizzeria owner some $$$ for the truck (sans tomato) while it's still salvageable. maybe help him find a Brand X POS to replace it!

I'd say it's done more for promoting Studebakers by being used as a sign, than being well kept and tucked away in a garage.
