Sharon, on the Hawks, they are basically just NAMES! But there is SOME sense to the naming process. The model name usually indicates a Coupe OR Hardtop AND the size of the ENGINE as well as the year that model was used.

You really only have 2 body styles of the Hawks: the "C" body coupe and the "K" body Hardtop. very much like the '53-'55 C & K models.

When I first look at ANY car, any make or year, the VERY FIRST place I look is at the center of the car: the rear of the front door "POST". Does it go all the way to the roof, or is it a Hardtop with no upper "post"? The next thing I look at is the rear quarter window, is it a roll down type?, sealed type?, swing-out style?, is there a rear DOOR? If so what type of windows does it have? All this is to determine the "Body Style" then I can enjoy the rest knowing what I am looking at!

Don't feel bad if you don't get it all right away, my parents said I was calling out the Make of the cars going by at 4 years old, with amazing accuracy! [:0]

Now that you can tell a "C" from a "K", lets break them down for you:

Nice list, Rich. You might also mention some other variations, as you did mentioning an exception for engines. I am thinking of '56 Flight Hawk hardtop, '57 Silver Hawk hardtop & '58 Silver Hawk hardtop.
