  • Avanti Bodies in Georgia

Just saw this on Craigslist. Belong to anyone here?

    1957 Studebaker Silver Hawk (289)

  • #2
These have been for sale for quite some time - maybe years.
I believe that we have discussed them here on the Forum.
Of course, none of them are Studebakers (or even the same as a Studebaker Avanti body), as stated in the listing/ad.

These are probably leftovers from the days when Avantis were built in nearby Villa Rica, GA.

Right Gary, and the "2 Door" is not a Coupe, but a Stretch Coupe, not as desirable as a Original Type Coupe.

Yes, we've been down this road before. Hope he sells them this time.

That is why I stated that none of them were the same as a Studebaker Avanti body (not only the 1990 four doors, but also the LSC [Luxury Stretch Coupe - starting in 1987]).
IMO, the LSC is more desirable than a standard coupe, due to the longer wheelbase and more balanced appearance (beauty is in the eye of the beholder).

Yeah, price is right IF one had anything to do with them other than as inconvenient door stops. Difficult to imagine what one would do with one(them) unless one actually had the model each was used with and wanted/needed a spare body/parts. And, how long have they been setting out? Never a good thing.

How does anyone know if these are good: Will the doors, glass, etc. fit?...were they production rejects?

Did I open up some old wounds?

                        Nahhh...
They were setting on pallet racks out in the back shop when production was in Villa Rica.
They had no plans to complete them.. They just came with the move to Georgia.
(And they did not make the cut to get moved to Mexico).

                        As far as being useable?
Sure, if you want a (steel reinforced?) fiberglass body that has sat out in the elements for years.
I'd worry about rust and separation.
But...if you are fixing a wreck.. It would be a big help.

One of those would look good setting on top of a 30' pole on a farm down in Brooklet, Ga.
