Did Studebaker ever offer a Spring Special?

For example, Desoto in the spring of 1940 introduced the Two-Toned Sportsman which was a Custom 4 door sedan offered in 3 unique two tone color combinations, upgraded Bedford Cloth interior, added chrome and whitewalls all for a bargain price

Bob: Do you mean the model was identified as a Spring Special, or it just appeared mid-year, regardless of what it was called?

If the latter, Studebaker had several. Probably the most recent, other than new spring colors, was the 1964 Commander Special, a dolled-up Commander 2-door sedan with higher, Daytona-level interior trim.

The Super Lark and Super Hawk introduced in February 1963 would also fall under that umbrella. BP

I believe the Skyway models with new color schemes were Studebaker's same idea of a spring promotion, but for the 1941 model year. Of course, RQ can provide further information on this.

I am thinking a "Spring Special" would be something offered after the regular fall introduction

It would include new colors

It would be something like the Commander Special a dolled up model with an upgraded interior

It might be a package of popular options ordered under one heading cheaper than the sum of the them ordered individually


It would have some sort of advertising -magazine ads, folders in the showroom, postcards and the like

According to the 1956 58 Studebaker sedan book from the Studebaker National Museum there were new spring colors in 56 and 57 sedans and wagons

There were also spring colors for 1963.

In 1958 there were New Spring Models!
The Studebaker Starlight Hardtops and Packard Sedan Hardtops were introduced, the New "J" models.

Studebaker had very few minor "Packages" like the right Arm rest, right sun visor, rear arm rests and the Windshield and Backlight Stainless Trim for certain low level models varying by year model and Standard Trim.

The only "Major" Packages were the Jet Thrust Engine and H.D. equipment Packages in late '63 & '64 Production.

mid year 63 came the super standard, a lot of car for the few bucks it cost.

My first car that my dad gave me was a 59 Lark in Seamist Green, a spring color.

GEEZ, you don't really think that Studebaker would be upstaged by the likes of DeSoto (or anyone else) in 1940? Of course they had a spring fling! New paint combinations and placement on all three models. Not only that but they also sent caravans of new brightly painted models around the country visiting dealers along the way. This photo shows one such fleet departing from the the Scherman-Schaus-Freeman dealership in South Bend in spring 1940. In the spring of '41 they did even better introducing a new body style on the President and Commander line (the Sedan Coupe) as well as a new trim level (Skyway) and new colors to boot. Cannot believe you didn't already know that!?

Technically, the 1957 Champion Scotsman, as it was originally known, would have been referred to as a spring model, since it was not in the line when the 1957 models were introduced. BP

The Spring Special that comes to mind for me is the 1953 Starliner Spring Special. It introduced Bombay Red or Bombay Red with a Salem White top. The red/white cars came with a new flax (cream color) vinyl leatherette upholstery. These models also had Monterey Beige interior metal trim, instead of Loma Gray.

Two tones that were initially offered on Starliners were also offered on Starlights in the Spring.

Our 1957 Packard wagon is a spring car, Built March 28th 1957 and painted Inca Cream/Astra White.
The Inca cream was a spring color but I don't think it was a special spring model.
