  • On this day, March 19, 1931...

Knute Rockne was named Manager of Sales Promotion for the Studebaker Corporation.

Twelve days later, March 31, 1931, he died in a plane crash just outside Bazaar, KS.

The Rockne production line at the Detroit plant did not begin moving until February of 1932; in spite of any photos Dick Quinn can produce to prove otherwise!

I have the original contract signed by Knute Rockne & the Studebaker Corporation ( co signed Paul Hoffman as Vice President ) dated March 19th with Knute to commence May 1st @ $833.33 per month. I also have the original agreement dated May 28th between Bonnie Rockne & the Corporation to receive .25 cents for each Rockne badged car produced by Studebaker up to $10,000 per year. This document was co signed by A Erskine & P Hoffman of Studebaker.

$833.33 would have been an enormous amount of money in 1932-33!
