Truly beautiful car and one I'd be proud to own.

All we know from the photos is it's not a complete R3 engine, missing the rocker covers but does have an R3 airbox and maybe the headers. If the sellers had supplied an engine serial number and the build sheet from the engine shop, the R3 experts here could give an opinion as to what percent R3 is present.

There was a thread about this car within the last week or two.

But I'll be darned if I can find it now, sorry...

He will know where to find the engine number after the 2 messages I sent him from my Ebay account about a month ago. He was representing this car as a factory built R3. I went through his ad and discounted the claim stating Studebaker never produced a R3 engine in a partial "oil" flow engine. R3's had special intake, heads, valves, 5 breather caps on valve cover and oilpan, pistons, vibration dampner, and the list went on and on which the '62 stocker engine in the picture does not have. Never heard back from the owner but his Ebay ad changed drastically. The car looks like a real nice 62, I really like the colour,... the seller is simply not educated with anything Studebaker. Good luck with the sale.

Here is the reply I got when I asked about what had been done to the engine. I may try calling to see what they say.

"Give us a call will be able to share more with you.

If he just answered your question via e-mail, it's a lost sale opportunity. First rule of floggin' used cars is, "Get 'em on the lot and get 'em talkin' price. The rest is easy."

I called them, the engine was specially built for Andy Granatelli, however he didn't know just what modifications were made. What a find. All that aside, it is a nice looking car.

"specially built for Andy Granatelli" Really? Says who? Andy's dead, so is Joe. Maybe Vince has the papers.

                      Papers....show me the papers.

I wouldn't buy a two thousand dollar bird dog without papers, nor a twenty thousand diamond ring, nor a high dollar violin without papers. Nor a "they say" Studebaker.

Who the heck are "they" anyway?

You got no papers? Hit the road, Jack.

Only slightly OT, same but different; for years a guy has been advertising a Packard V8 marine conversion with 2x4 and a Paxton. It's an excellent looking piece which could easily stand on its own, but the seller continually advertises it with this long oral legend of how Andy Granatelli built it to run at Bonneville. He has zip documentation, only second hand representations. In 50+plus years of following Packard V8s, I've never seen any print reference connecting Packard and Granatelli, so it's up to the seller to prove same.

Either of these could be a genuine Granatelli built engine, but again, it's up to the seller to prove the claim. There is enough money at stake the Shelby Cobra/GT350 and Sunbeam Tiger folk have a TAC committee which for a small fee will inspect and authenticate the originals from the repops and falsely advertised. Would be nice for Studes to get to that price point some day.
