  • Golden Hawk design concept

Saw this on Facebook. Never seen this design concept sketch before; it's by Del Coates, dated 12-3-57, and was for the 59 Golden Hawk. Way ahead of its time.Click image for larger version

Looks like a Caddy crossed with a Mopar.

I don't see anything remotely Studebaker on it.

I don't know - that greenhouse and C-pillar looks awfully '58J-ish to me...

I agree with Chris, and am glad the Hawk developed as it did.

There IS that lil' V emblem on the front of the hood hump.
No deceptive flags to prove I'm patriotic - no biblical BS to impress - just ME and Studebakers - as it should be.

I like it. Not only does it not resemble anything Studebaker, but it doesn't remind me of anything made by the other manufacturers at the time. The grill reminds me of the Ford Torino a decade later. i like the tops of the front fenders, and how the bumper snugly blends into the front and wraps around the fenders like on the 53-54 C-K cars. The back end looks like a Cadillac, but the front more like what was seen from the big 3 in the late 60s or early 70s. Ahead of their time again.

                    Thanks for sharing the picture.

That's interesting. The text states Studebaker also had manufacturing sites for wagons and carriages in Europe and Asia. I've never heard of these. Where were they?

I like it, even if the nose to me looks early 60s T-bird and I'd call the tailfins Mopar, if not similar to period Stude fins. Maybe a little too busy with the hood scoop, but since Mercedes Benz never came through for South Bend, it was time to find a new front end to follow? I'd like to see the front without the bumper straight across and split into two.
