Cool! A 51 custom two door. And it does not even have the "rare" automatic transmission. Looks like a good deal.

My first Studebaker was a 50 custom two door. It cost $180 with new rings and head gasket. Of course, that was in 1972. :)

I thought of you when I saw this, Chris. Thought someone up in your neck of the woods should check it out.

I believe the Custom was the plainest model for several years. Think Scotsman in an earlier form.

Custom?Body tag on firewall would indicate 10G-F1.

The Custom models were a product of the early '50's cars. Scotsman models (both cars and trucks) were late 50's models (1957 - 1959).

Custom as in NOT Deluxe or Regal Trim.
Note the painted headlight Rims, Painted Tail Light rims, no stainless trim on Windshield or backlight, none around side windows, it would also have the small round Trunk Handle/License Light as well as a very Spartan Interior.

If I remember correctly, the Custom was the base model for a few years. One of the identifying features was the painted headlight rims.

I contacted the guy and left my number....

Wish it was closer. I'd be there in the morning with cash, but if I drove 800 miles, it would be gone by the time I got there. I've been watching craigslist and ebay the past year for Studebakers, and there have been some really good buys. I've always thought Studebakers were underpriced, especially for being a much more rare and more quality car than the other makes.

Appears to be quite clean. Real nice buy.

The listing is gone now. Either someone snatched it up pronto, or it was a scam. The guy never called me back. The prudent thing to do would be to clean it up and make sure everything is working, then list it on eBay to flip for a tidy New Years' profit.
