  • Overall Length of Champion & Commander Sixes

    Hi

The question of the overall length of Studebaker Commander and Champion sixes has come up on another forum.

Not to put anyone out, but would someone who has a car handy, please measure the overall length from fan to bell housing when you have a chance?

There is no prize for doing so other than my thanks (for what that's worth!)

If you're just looking to tell them apart, length of head is probably easiest and least misunderstood; width would just be icing on the cake. If you're wondering what other spaces they would fit, you'll want measurement from the nose of the fan hub to the back of the bell housing.

        Hi Gary

Thanks for the Champion dimension, adding 6"-8" likely approximates the fan to bell housing length. Commander six length anyone?

Okay, I just measured my Commander Big Six engine in my '50 and the head end to end is 24". Adding about 8" for the water pump and fan is about right.
