Packard content: I'm reading a book, "Fetch The Devil", about a still unsolved 1938 murder mystery in El Paso, Texas, likely due to a Nazi spy cell. Mother and daughter were driving a 1937 Packard Eight Sedan from San Francisco to Camp Lejeune but had engine trouble outside El Paso. Had to stop in town at the one Packard dealer in the area, Stone Motor Company. The dealer diagnosed a broken pushrod and a badly scored cam eccentric. They told her the parts air freighted from Detroit to El Paso was under $50, she agreed, but later was heard to complain it was a $46 charge!
    Imagine!
The engine had only about 5000 miles on it, the dealer did say it was a rare failure.
Anyone scare up pics of the Stone Motor Company?
It's an interesting story otherwise...since they were in El Paso waiting for the repair, somehow they run afoul of the spy ring, likely from across the border but I haven't gotten that far in the story. True story. The Frome Murders, for anyone brave enough to admit remembering anything about this.
