  • 1951 Commander brake drum vs. 59 - 63 Lark brake drum.

Could it be possible to use a 59 - 63 Lark 9" rear drum #1542158 (drum only) on a 51 Commander rear hub ? being that 51s are like truck drums with the drum in board of the hub - and Lark drums mate up out board of the hub. obviously the off set and it's diameter are critical, has anyone tried this, succeeded ?

Offsets on drums are different since Lark drums go over the hubs & early drums go inside the hubs..

As said above they're made different, but My question is will it work and have correct shoe contact and come up against the backing plate "just wondering if anyone has played around with this ?

I believe you have to change backing plates too, at least I did on my '51. This way there is no doubt that all components match up and operate as designed.
