  • Synchronizer ring position in T8 trans

I am doing some work on the T84G-1A transmission on my 46 Champ. The service manual
cautions that you should mark the position of the front synchronizer ring and synchronizer outer shell before taking them apart. In this case, others had
disassembled the transmission, and did not remember to do this marking. The
book is silent on what one does when no marking was done. How do I align the synchronizer parts so they will work right?
There must be a way.....how else could they have assembled them at the
factory, right? This is a garden variety Warner Wear manual 3-speed
transmission that Studebaker used for many years, with synchromesh
second and third gears. Thanks in advance for any advice
    you can offer.

Wow, I thought all Champions were T-90, I guess that's just an older version!

The factory would have NEW unworn parts on original build, that's why after they wear, they SHOULD be kept in their original order.

If you are talking about the synchronizer brass rings vs the springs, outer sleeve and small wear plates, I don't think it will KILL it, if you just put it together, and use Lubriplate grease on it![:0]

In most cases on T-90, T86's we are replacing all that with new anyway, and then it does not matter.

My cousin sells this book about rebuilding the T-84J(used in WWII jeeps)

It was also used in Weasels.
I guess this is why some Jeeps ended up with Stude champion engines.
Used to see them on ebay all the time.
