Wow that Bus Body looks a lot older than the '49-'53 Cowl and Chassis. Maybe they recycled the Body!

Bus certainly looks as if it hauled many children to school and back over the years!
Probably smells like the inside of those yellow rubber rain coats we wore!sigpic1957 Packard Clipper Country Sedan

Studedude: Thanks for posting the photo of the R series school bus. Brings back memories. This 2R bus appears to be a 36 passenger bus built in the early 50's. The body seems familiar, but I can't date it. That's the era when I was a young school kid. Looking at old school buses bring back a lot of memories.
The bus on our route as a 1st-2nd grader was a '34 Chevrolet with four long parallel sets in it. It was a wood framed body with a low roof. The high school kids always complained because they had to bend over to move. They usually pushed to get the seats up front. When the row would fill up and the bus would take off in low gear, the high school kids would slide (push) us little kids towards the back with the smallest ones popping off their seats into the kids in the center rows. Those big, hateful guys had no mercy on us!! This was in 1943-44 school years. In 1945, we finally got a bus on our route (a 48 passenger Chevrolet) that had two rows of 12 seats with an aisle down the center. These seats faced the front of the bus and ended the high school boys crushing the little kids. Thank goodness.

'Glad you enjoyed it, Frank!
I know riding a Studebaker wagon or bus to school can be hard.
Here in Oklahoma, it was ride a mile, stop the wagon/bus, fight the Indians, go another mile, stop and fight the Indians... it's a wonder we ever got to school, or back home!Last edited by Studedude; 08-02-2014, 10:27 AM.sigpic
