  • 224 or 259?

Got involved with removing the engine and standard trans from a rusty '55 Commander hardtop this week. The stick setup will be going into a '55 Speedster with a sick auto trans. I'm wondering if the cubic inch of this engine can be determined by its serial number? (V344237) (2bbl Bearcat) The engine is frozen at the moment.

Hmmm, looks like a late '55, 259. Bummer, if you were looking for a 1/8 Mile Drag Car Engine!

Yes, that info really 'nails it down' to be a 259, which is good. Thanks!

Even in the 1/8-mile, even with 6.33 gears, I'd still bet on the 259". The 224" is only competitive in a class which doesn't allow anything larger. It was pure hell in the 225" Hydro class.
