  • Hot Rod Power Tour is in the Quad Cities

I saw at least 3 Studes that are on the tour, a 1953 Starliner & a '50 Champion convert (both with bow tie power) & a '65. As I was leaving an early '50s pickup was coming in, but I didn't get to talk to the owner. Kicker Sound had a '50 Champion with a kicker sound system... GM powered as well..

We came in with my 89 Avanti convertible around 5:30. Were you gone by then? I saw a nice 2R pickup in the parking garage, the back end of a beige 65? Stude leaving and the 50 with the propeller on the bullet nose and a Vette LS motor under the hood. When I did the first 3 stops of the tour in 2012, we did not have a back up like we experience today after we got off of 80 and drove down to the Casino. The one way in did not help efficiently move the vehicles at all.

The beige Stude is actually a '66, at least it has a '66 front clip on it.

It must have been 5 or 5:15 when I left. This 71 year old had worked from 7 till 2, then I drove the Avanti home, changed into a Stude shirt & jeans and hi-tailed it down there and walked the whole area. By 5, I was exhausted and my left knee told me to "sit or git"... so I got and had a burger & shake at Steak n Shake and headed home to rest. I didn't even try to park in the show area, I parked in front of the police station about 50 yards before the eastbound cars turned right onto the overpass and into the casino grounds.
They had the whole Bettendorf area backed up with traffic & in Davenport there were a bunch of motorcycles coming into town for their event; I guess hotel rooms were at a premium.

You must have moved out about the time I got transferred here. The meet was in Bettendorf, just east of the I-74 bridge... it was the old J.I.Case site and is now the Isle of Capri Casino.

Marchobbs, Good to see your Studebaker on the tour (sorry I mis-identified the year). I hope to see you make another trip this month... this time to Dover!

Marchobbs, congratulations on completing the journey! I did 3 stops in 2012, Detroit, Muskegan and Champaign in my 76 Avanti before getting back to work and the Lake Zurich to Bettendorf in my 89 Avanti convertible. I'm planning Rte 66 next summer, so I'll try to do a full tour in 2016 or 2017 depending on the route. I wonder how many Rat rods were Long haulers this year.

Duane, I'll see you in Dover, are you stopping by Hagerstown with the Avanti? I'm leaving Friday the 27th for Hagerstown with my '76 and wife following with her Odyssey as Plan B. We're looking at 630 miles on Friday, then going to Dover from Hagerstown Sunday(about 3 hours). Good Roads to everyone traveling to Dover!
