Can a starter be removed from a 1960 Lark 6 cly with out removing the distributor ?? If so How ? Thanks Hal W

Don't have the '60 shop manual handy but earlier manuals say "no." Must remove dipstick tube and distributor to remove starter. I don't remember needing to remove it when I replaced a starter in a '60 Lark VI but that's been over thirty-five years ago.Last edited by rockne10; 04-24-2014, 02:39 PM.Brad Johnson,

I can't imagine why you could not, just remove the spring clip under the nose of the Starter and the dipstick tube and wrench away, I am sure I have done that.
The Vacuum Advance Can and tube are the only thing close, and should to pointed toward the engine to give plenty of room.StudeRich

It has been a while since I did that job, but the distributor did not have to be removed. I think once the starter moves back a little you can swing it to the side."In the heart of Arkansas."
