As has been mentioned on this forum the Karel Staple Chapter of the Studebaker Drivers Club is hosting the Pacific Southwest Zone meet in Sacramento May 16 - 18, 2014. This zone meet includes a rare opportunity to see the famous California Highway Patrol Academy on Friday, May 16. This tour will include "Fleet Ops" where new vehicles are equipped, the academy grounds, lunch in the cafeteria, a docent-led tour of the new museum and, hopefully, some extra special activities including the cadet training skid pad. Fleet Ops is the facility that installs thousands of dollars of technology into every new CHP interceptor sports utility pursuit vehicle that is based on the Ford Explorer.

The tour is on Friday, May 16, and tentatively scheduled from 9-3. There will be walking. There are only 40 tickets available for $25.00 each. This includes lunch, a donation to the CHP museum, and a donation to our club's education fund. Registration at the zone meet is required.

The zone meet is being held at McClellan Park (formerly McClellan AFB). Accommodations are at the Lions Gate Hotel; 3410 Westover Street, Sacramento, CA 95652; (866) 866-7100. Additional information and registration are available at our club's web site: www.hawktalks.com/.

Do they have Broderick Crawford's CHP car in the museum (TV Show, California Highway Patrol, from the '50s). That would be a trip.

Well the CHP Academy is next to Broderick Ca. 95605. Maybe he's planted around there.

I would like to see a 1964 Pursuit Marshall like the one I saw many years ago parked in front of Tower Records Broadway in Sacramento.

If I can make it to this show- and that is a BIG if- I think it might be pretty cool to do the CHP tour.
But I'll be even more jazzed about checking out CalFire's aviation operation.
Well, that and the 'base' museum left over from the Air Force days, of course... ;)
