  • Easy question about Color of 1954 Starliner engine/bell housing/tranny

I believe the engine is supposed to be black, and tranny is ugly green; but is the bell housing black or green? Ken, Deltaville, Va

Engine block, transmission and bell housing are green. Rocker covers, air cleaner and oil pan are black (likely with green overspray ). I believe the valley cover is also black.

Valley cover should be black & if you have the added oil filter, it should be black (not orange) and it will have green over-spray. Heads should be green as well, I believe. The brackets for clutch linkage etc. all black. If a dealer installed the oil cleaner, it may indeed be orange.

The main items, like the engine block, should be 1930s-1940s 30 weight engine oil green.
