I think they were in the 56 Champions maybe as far as the '58s. They were the type that looked like an eye, they rotated kind of like a compass.

        An example from 1957~

Yes, I know- the Hawk gauges don't belong there.
They were installed years before I was born, and I like them!!!

Though the housing is different- the 'guts' are the same from 1956 to 1958 for all Stude sedans and wagons.

Would one from a '58 Packard 2dr hardtop work?

I know I've got the housing - I just had it in my hand the other day. I'm not sure about the speedo guts tho.

I don't have my books here to check, but I am about 99.9% sure the guts are the same- '56 to '58 sedans/wagons.

Yup, internals are the same for the three years - only the housings changed. These will, BTW, fit onto a 59-60 Lark dash (with some surgery, of course) as well as all Champ trucks. I put one in the 8E Champ I owned 30 years ago.

BTW, Dave - I was intimating that I wasn't sure if I HAD the mechanics of one - not whether they were the same across the years.

                          I knew you knew better.
An extra word or two would've made the sentence I quoted read completely different.
Sorry. No hard feelings I hope.

Hey , I'm just trying to find one for another SDCer who isn't on the net.
Why does everyone seem to get far off the topic and argue about stuff???

There were lots in stock when it was Sasco. I don't think that Ed will have sold them all.
