A gentlemen in Alabama contacted me regarding one of his lost loves. It is a fairly unique 1975 Avanti II RQB 2228. The original owner supplied Marble to AMC for the dash and console panels. Does anyone know where this unique car is located today?

That would be neat to know about. I remember reading many years ago in a magazine article about Avanti Motors where they said a customer supplied a slab of marble for the dash and console. An unusual car like that deserves to be saved if it still exists. It's a unique example of what Avanti Motors would do to customize a car to please a customer. I hope it's found and is rebuildable.

Yes, Avanti Motors (Newman-Altman in particular) really seemed to have no problem with unique requests.....Too bad better records don't exist of those 'A' and early 'B' series Avantis.:(

When I visited the plant in that era customers could have about anything they wanted if they got out their checkbook. There were some stacks of interesting fabrics, etc. waiting to be used on someone's order.

Yep, I remember that issue! January(?) 1976 Motor Trend. It was a fitting tribute to Nate Altman just before he passed away.

We have a member in our chapter who owns a 1978 Avanti II. He was able to get the build sheet. It states "Install CB radio supplied by customer" on it.

Got the owners mixed up. Do remember Max owning the car. The Memphis / ky car was not the marble dash car.

I remember the marble. Compared to the dash overlay. The marble was very thick and heavy. I could not see how the screws held it in place.

Good News thanks to some eagle eyed and generous SDC'ers the dealer who currently has the car has contacted the party looking for the car. Hopefully they can reach a deal.

Thanks to all who gave me the leads and news groupers in general you are all good people.
