'59 Silver Hawk

New to the form. I have a '60 Lark and a '59 Splver Hawk and am completing a '46 Packard Clipper Deluxe. Any help would be appreciated.
How is the Silver Hawk emblem and script removed from the fins so car can be painted? Is it attached with a adhesive that can be heated and removed?

They are retained with 'barrel clips'. That means they should pry off. (carefully!)

If it's original,it has small pins or 'stakes' on the back. These are pushed into 'barrel clips' in the holes of the sheet metal. You need to pry them off[I usually use a putty knife] very carefully,and evenly[work back and forth,top to bottom,so as to pry it off equally and not bend or break it.]

PS...if You should break the pins off the backside of these pot metal emblems, not to worry....they can be reinstalled using carefully trimmed 'double-sided' automotive bodyside moulding attachment tape.

Just curious. If you remove the fin caps, can the clips be pried off from the inside or are they too deep to reach?

The clips will NOT come off the back,but with a long screwdriver,you could push them out[toward the outside of the panel] That's risky though,push just a little too much on one pin-and the emblem is broke.
BTW- new emblems can be bought from Studebaker International,and probably many other vendors...
