For those not in the know.

Studebaker powered Avanti's hold three current land speed records at Bonneville. "Old iron at work."

Think long and hard before you trash your next stude engine for that brand X clone

No one to my knowledge is using "fuel" in ANY Studebaker engine (see the posted links' headings)... it's tough enough on racing fuel! Yes, Lange, Bloomberg, & Livesay... all "gas."

The CBFALT record listed is for the Burke Avanti now owned by David Parris.:!: (non Stude engine, though)
This Avanti has a great history through the years going under several names, with several different engine setups.
The current name (iirc) is "The Carolina Salt Shaker"
David is currently bringing the car up to date and re-powering it with both a naturally aspirated 259, and later it will be getting a full effort 289 Stude engine.

The engine has gotten some mainstream notoriety when featured on the Enginelabs website:

The Burke Avanti record is not Studebaker powered. Many records are held by Studebakers with engine changes. Classic Production Supercharged, CPS can not have engine changes. TBirds, Grand Nationals, Ford 500's and many other cars can run in CPS.

Amen to that IMHO. There is getting to be fewer and fewer all the time. Some day it will be like putting a SBC in a Duesenburg.

Just one Stude owners opinion of course. I own a 63 R2 Avanti and a 47 4 dor Champion and 7 Cockshutt tractors and all are original with in reason.
