I'm wondering what other owners of Hawks like to see on these cars
The Ribbon, Half or Full Whitewall?
I'm leaning towards the half whitewall on the blue Hawk...
any opinions?

What will they be going on?

61 and prior, the wide whites were in.

62 was kind of a transition year

63 and later the narrow whites

I like the blue one too, but I also like the pinstripe radials with 1/4" whitewalls

The White '62 GT Hawk shown has early 1950's width Whitewalls that just look WRONG on a '62 because they ARE!

No '62 Studebakers were delivered New with Narrow Whitewalls. They do look fine, if you like them on pre '63's however. :)

The Blue looking '62 is probably Silver with reflection on it, but it's Tires are really not HALF Whitewall, those are considered Wide Whites with approx. 2 Inch Whitewalls, correct for 1956 to 1962 which originally had the 1/4 Inch "Rub Rail" outside of the Whitewall to protect it.

The outer Black portion of the Tire is not the sidewall, it is the "Shoulder".

No GT Hawks should have wide whites*! As Rich indicated, not only do they look wrong, THEY ARE WRONG ! Dick's GT is just about as elegant as they get!

*unless that's the look you want.

Commas are important!
"Let's eat mother!"
"Let's eat, mother!"
"My '62 Dick."
My '62, Dick.

If Studebaker thought is was good enough in 1962 - it probably could still be good enough today... Those full width whitewalls make it look like the driver should be wearing a full length fur coat - not too comfy in your part of the world...

Use what ever the car came with, The 62s look a lot better than than 63-64 to me. I love wide whites. But i'm a 50's lover.

Regardless of what style you choose make certain they're radials.

Either use the proper whitewall width for the year of your Hawk or use blackwalls.

Your car...your tires...your money. Whatever makes you happy is all that's important.

My opinion . . . get the ones that are standard for the year of the car, but definitely NOT the extra wide whites shown on the white car in the original post. Those are appropriate for cars prior to the mid 50s and just don't look right on newer cars. But as Gunslinger said, it's your car!!

I personally love blackwall, redlines, or even goldlines, with some nice mags or wires but, with factory hub caps I think the half white are perfect, WWs are a little too much, and narrow whites don't look right with hub caps.

White Walls are the best!
Especially on Trucks!!
I miss them thru the years they were not popular (Late 60's, 70'2 and 80's), But I still put them on my 49 Ford in 82..... I was the only one around that had them.
But now they are BACK! Thank God!
