As told by my mom ...

Sixty years ago today, my dad phoned my uncle at 2 am to drive him and my mom to the hospital where I was born.

Uncle John was the Studebaker dealer in town (Benld, IL) and he owned a '51 Champion. He also owned the Texaco service station, which made it all the more ironic that his gas tank was nearly on empty when dad called him. He always claimed it was the only time in his life he let his tank get near empty, and I believe him.

So instead they took my dad's 1950 Champion and made it to the hospital with 45 minutes to spare.

The next day, the clutch went out in dad's car.

That close to being born in the back seat of a Studebaker!

Well we can't have it all... but quite some stuff anyway!
I had to wait a whole year until my parents bought a Studebaker, but that car made my life.
