'59 Silver Hawk VIN # question---location on frame rear crossmember? and door pillar that match

My friend at the Highway Patrol says the matching # is on a small frame crossmember behind fuel tank and maybe under the shield that goes over the exhaust--and that the number maybe a separated set of digits, like 59V32 20 ---any ideas if this is correct ?
