  • Engine: M 5 Engine numbers

I recently purchased a M 5 pickup and am trying to determine the year. The engine number is 1M7205. Thanks

It's probably a 1946 model. Engine numbers and truck serial numbers don't correspond exactly, but they are close enough for a guess at build year. The 1946 model year started at truck s/n M5-5001 and ended at M5-19052.

See this page on my web site: http://www.studegarage.com/REFDATA/m...ction_nums.htm

You can pin down the build date by finding the truck serial number. Some of the early number plates were on the door post on the driver's side; later ones were on the riser beside the seat on the driver's side. The serial number is also on an aluminum plate riveted to the side of the frame near the left front wheel. The body number - also not directly related to the serial number, but close - is on a tag on the firewall, right side, up high. The Studebaker National Museum will get you a copy of the original build sheet with exact date if you give them the serial number.
