We can't be too hard on Doc for not taking the car out. We don't know the situation. Perhaps by rain, he meant heavy rain, with a chance of hail. Maybe the wiper blades were never re-installed during the build. I've seen that on a few Studes. Maybe the distributor/electrical system is super finicky, and high humidity can be all it takes to kill it. I know on my car, with it's cheap, decade-old Maaco paint job, I can get it looking pretty good by spending a solid day polishing, buffing, waxing, etc, but if one drop of rain hits the car, a water spot will show up that can't be wiped away, and it'll be another day of doing all that work, all over again. Maybe he wants to avoid that.

That said, I still drive my car in almost any weather. I even park it outside sometimes *gasp*.

I should have been more specific. My Hawk's wipers (defroster too) don't work so I took my 63 Fairlane instead because the wipers work. A few months back I was determined to take my Hawk because I'd spent most of the day waxing it and finished right before it started raining. I'd Rain-Xed the windows but it was a miserable journey. The rain was heavier than the Rain-X could handle and I found out there was a leak under the dash right onto my leg. My former boss had a 1966 Cadillac that he was proud to say had never been in the rain ever. I made fun of him for it so I know how you guys feel. Ya gotta drive em!

I also drive my Studebakers in the rain, but not lately. It's been pouring !!!!! in this part of the world (northern Arkansas) for nearly two weeks! Also the wipers on my 50 can be a real pain in heavy rain

Yeah, I also thought "must be hell not to be able to drive your Studebaker cause of rain" but without wipers & defroster I wouldn't drive anything with a roof in rain!

I not only would drive in the rain, I would do it without a hood. Cause I got caught on the way home after this little show. Rained on my engine and me. I also didn't have a left door glass. LOL

My windshield leaks in to the glovebox. I remove items from the glovebox when it rains.

As an aside, I took the '51 out to a local cruise a couple weeks ago. It had been sitting in the garage for a few weeks and I didn't really have time to give it a wash so, decided to run it through the brushless automatic high pressure car wash.

NOT A GOOD IDEA !

Fortunately, there are a few pin holes in the floor that served as drains.
