  • Engine: Not gonna assume

that, when setting the timing on a Champion 170, #1 cylinder is the cylinder at the front of the engine block.

    Is it?

Just my luck they would put it at the back of the block in order. Thank you.

Then what about that counter-clockwise distributor? What's up with that? And why the foreign name? They were all-american for heaven's sake! Should have been a Smith or Jones or Johnson!
Yeah, I like that. Drive the new 1947 Johnson Champion; first by far with a post-war car.
          But...
NAH! Johnson is too much like Volvo or Saab.
Gahlbeck? Too much like Maybach. Too rich for my blood, and still European.

Let's face it! A little bit weird; and we are all COOL !

Well, Mr. Johnson is functioning in his prime now. New wires, points condenser and points. Would also have new cap and rotor, but I found out the hard way that that little tab in the dist cap doesn't keep the cap very centered and I have another rotor on the way so I'll have a new cap and rotor again as well next week.
Runs so much better now and I wasn't unhappy with how it ran before. The plugs that came out all looked great and the points were fine as well.
Now I definitely need to install that tach I bought.
