  • Cool/Heat: Not a Studebaker, but....

Something strange happened today which I can't explain. Took My Sprite out for a good run - everything normal, oil pressure 50 psi, temp 170 (it's on a 165 thermostat).

Parked it in the garage, and about 6 hours later decided to check the oil. The upper radiator hose was still HOT. Felt the cylinder head, block, upper and lower rad tanks - all were just barely warm, as expected.

    It's a mystery to me.

    Any ideas?

My guess is "heat transfer." Metal is much better at it than thick rubber.

Basic physics has heat rising. Often the upper rad hose is the highest point.

Nothing to worry about if its not showing hot on the gauge or spitting out coolant suggesting a failed gauge. Heat remains in metal and coolant for a long time.

It's British. Probably a Lucas ghost. Although it may have to do with [S]omething [U]nknown.

Don't guess. Use a heat gun, often on sale for $20 now.
