The local cruises at Ocean Beach State Park began tonight after being rained out a week ago. It was badly needed fun to take the Studebaker. It gets a considerable amount of attention from the people enjoying the various cars present.
A couple of men stopped by and wanted to know about the Avanti. Young Carlos served as an interpreter for his father. His father was kind of misty-eyed. Carlos said his dad had never seen an Avanti before and that his deceased grandfather was the distributor for Studebaker in the Dominican Republic from 1956-1958. I asked Carlos if he would write down the name of the business, as we were struggling to communicate. The distributorship was Figueroa & Socias. His father asked to look under the hood, so he could see the engine. The winter seemed long and an evening of sunshine and cars was badly needed!
