  • Electrical: springs for the wiper motor brushes

    Does anyone know where source for new springs are for the wiper motor brushes?
    The old ones I pulled out-
    Length ------------- .875
    Compressed length - .20
    wire diameter-------.15
    64 Champ long bed V8
    55/53 Studebaker President S/R
    53 Hudson Super Wasp Coupe

    I'm sure a few could be found on my garage floor, under things, but I'm not going to look again...

      my building supply store has small bins of springs in their hardware area that usually has what I need. You might try that if you can't find them on Tom's floor.

          Try a vacuum cleaner repair shop.

            Good luck,
            I stripped a plastic gear on mine (52 commander) And was told I would need to buy a complete unit.

            Hope your luck is better than mine!!!

              If you have a shop in your area that repairs electric motors they should have them.

                thanks guys! But looks like I'll be sending it to a wiper motor specialist as upon stripping it down, found the gear stripped (available from SI) the contacts completely shot and the brush holder table cracked. The commentator end with brushes is available along with the armature from SI but looks like this one needs the coils as well.
                SI price on an nos one is 325.00 and a restoration shop is 190.00.
