No! They will never match. Using the Serial number from the seat riser you can obtain the original production order on the vehicle from the Studebaker National Museum. The production order will indicate the engine number that was original to the chassis when it left the line. There will be no numeric correlation.

    And, by the way,

Thanks, bought this as a 1947, but quickly found out it was a 1946 by serial numbers and serial plate was on door hinge pillar(late 1946 was moved to seat riser) this truck is early 1946, have DMV coming out to check numbers to get title work done, just wanted to make sure the numbers were not suppose to match, they are close, thanks again for the info.

Does it work the other way? Can Studebaker National Museum determine the production order and thus yr based on the engine number? Assuming of course the engine has not been changed out.

        a bunch of non-Stude stuff

Yes, it can be done but since the p.o.'s are in serial number sequence and the engine numbers are not it would take a long time to find it and they really are not interested in spending that much time trying to find it. I have looked up serial numbers using both the engine numbers and body numbers but it is a time intensive proposition.

You should also find a serial # plate on the left front outer frame rail above the axle, may be covered with grease/crud.

Just to update, the serial #s are in the 12000 range for door pillar, engine, and cab. The frame tag is very worn.

Does anyone know what should be on the frame tag...model and serial number, or just serial number
