It is a N/A (Naturally aspirated) 259. (To stay in the selected class CID rules)
Roller cam, roller rockers, dry sump, crank trigger ignition, race intake.
No, the dyno is not 'optimistic' (why is it that when any number actually gets posted, people have to doubt it out loud??).
Be aware that this particular dyno pull was only the third one done to this engine, and it was done with a carb that was not matched to this engine (it was one that was just tossed on there)...
This is also a very low compression engine, and this pull was done with the carb real 'fat', and with STOCK Stude exhaust manifolds..
There is a lot more to this build happening, and this video was just a teaser.
A set of full race experimental tube headers (with the emphasis on mental) are going on Monday and another pull will be done.
A carb swap is happening also, but these will be done one step at a time.
If you read the post replies, you would know that this whole project is documented at RacingStudebakers.com

David's chassis dyno will be 'The Ohio Mile' in June.... C'mon over and watch 'em flog it!

No sweat Junior...
I understand your statements, but it just gets to me when the first thing one reads is a doubter as to the accuracy of a post.
The dyno will get the car to the track faster, and with less thrashing.
But, you are right....The race track will be the ultimate arbiter.
Everybody involved in this project is learning.
I just like the fact that the knowledge gained is being shared openly on the Internet!
Here's a teaser pic of David's engine with my 'loaner' headers...

Very cool, Jeffster; thanks and congratulations. BPWe've got to quit saying, "How stupid can you be?" Too many people are taking it as a challenge.

Wow, thanks for that 4th pipe explanation ! Thought for a minute there that this was some trick photo from England with a tea-cup warmer installed as a 4th pipe,ha! Sure looking forward to updates too, I am like Junior and a bit nervous with the warnings I also get from the website messages. Jeff, thanks for the news and photos, sure would like to be there in person during test and runs !.

It's an orphan pipe for an orphan engine, for an orphan car
Oh, it's there for a reason, just not on this particular engine.

i've got it, that lonely pipe is going to cross over to the opposite bank's heat riser exhaust port like that funky lark v-8 set up from edmonton canada post last year....so instead of 180 degree headers, it'd be 45 degree headers...imagine the possiblilities, and the bark that set up would produce. out in left field, junior. ps, the leaf blowers...remember the leafblower supercharger set up HOT ROD mag slapped on that c4 vette...they actually worked.sigpic

As a sidenote, this engine was assembled in short order, with a coupla experienced salt flat and Ohio mile guys as well. The internals are not completely stock, and even though I've been following the build on the Racing Forum, the rest of us regular Studebaker mortals have no idea all of what's inside the engine either. Therefore, when they say it's 300 hp, the best thing to do is nod in agreement in this case. As stated, the engine and the Burke Bros Avanti it's going in are also headed to the ECTA meet in June, so for me that's all the more reason to take their word for it.1964 Studebaker Commander R2 clone
