  • Hummer hardware at Carlisle

The spring Carlisle Pa old car flea market was held 10 days ago. I always go just to look at the cars and parts, even though the Studes are few and far between.

One of the more interesting vendors had ~100 heavy duty boxes full of automotive hardware: nuts, bolts, clips, washers, speed nuts, J nuts, etc -- all made in the USA (of course). Each box had to weigh ~40 lbs. The hardware all came from the AM General (ex-Studebaker truck) Hummer plant in Mishawaka -- leftovers, apparently. He was selling it for $15 for a bag full that was about the size of loaf of bread -- any mixture you wanted. All metric, of course, but a good price -- and a remote connection to Studebaker.
