    This also was posted some time back, but many probably didn't see it (Ford wasn't first with a tail gate step even if theirs is fancier).

      With a full size man carrying something heavy, that is a lot of stress on the tailgate hinge points and the four bolts through the tailgate sheet metal. .

        Studebaker really DID have a LOT of ingenious ideas for Accessories etc. Probably not a Big seller, but it would be quite useful like the Bed Side Step.
