  • 52 Hardtop keeps drawing me back.

It's no secret that I have a soft spot for 52 Studebakers after owning one for 40 years and I would like to have a Commander. This car on eBay looks like a solid example of a Commander Starliner. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1952-...item3f23809475 I know all the down side, shipping, rare parts, lots of chroming, etc, but it doesn't keep me from wanting it. Somebody talk me down!

As well as I know The Bell's collection- this is one I don't recall ever seeing!!!

Give James some time. I'm sure he'll be along to comment soon.

I like 52s as well , I've owned 2 in the past and wish I still had one.My personal opinion is , if you want one buy the best you can find for the money you have to put into one.

I hear you. Even if I could afford it, I would hate to get a nice restored car. I would modify one much like Jim Turner's 52 convertible with a 289 and such. Stock appearing, but not stock.

I have a soft spot for 52's also. A Commander 4 door was my first car in '59.

Hmmm....First I have to scrape up the money to buy the car, then how many gallons of fuel? Time off from work...No Colorado Springs if I do....Been wanting to see Washington again......Got to sell the Scout....I've got some of the NOS 52 parts already...
You guys are not helping. You're supposed to coax the jumper off the ledge.

I already had the sickness, you just made the fever worse. I'm trying to tell myself I would be better off with a coupe. Tighter, no torque boxes, less trim, but it's a hard sell.
BTW Anyone else notice that the car in question only has front fender trim on the left fender?

There is a 52 Hardtop sitting here in Bellevue, Ne. for sale Howard. Motivated seller, I have talked about on the Forum. It is a Champion but needs lots of work and has torque box issues. Claims engine has been rebuilt, nice interior, new brakes. All trim, including bumpers, has been painted over. Was asking $3500.00.

No I haven't posted pics Howard. And I am not currently close to my stuff, as I am still in AZ. We will go home when it stops snowing! If it was me I would look for a better one, I told the guy he was too high for what he had. His reply was that he had too much money invested in it and could not take less. If you like I can see if I still have his info at the house when I get back. Have to make sure he still has it too in case you decide you want it later.

If you guys are really serious about wanting and buying a 52 HT, I have a two tone green Commander, a two tone blue Champion, and an NOS 52 grille. (although the chrome on both cars is good.)
