  • Super Studebakers book review.

I just received the super Studebaker Booklet from the Studebaker Museum.($35.00). It is pretty much a compilation of most everything published on R1-R4 Larks/Hawks including but not limited to: history, detailed production statistics (Colors/options/body style/trim/model, shipping weights, service letters, prices (invoice and retail) R3/R4 parts list and prices.

You want to know how many 64 GT R2's were painted Avanti maroon ? (two) How many 63 r1 wagons were built with a 3 speed manual ? (one) Need specs, part number, factory list and dealer cost for the optional 288 degree R3 cam, it's there ?
Not a fancy booklet, but done on nice paper with clear text and lots of factory pictures. It's a must have for fans of Avanti powered Studebakers.

I agree with JDP!!! I got my copy last week and I think it is
well worth the money. I did my 1963 R2 Hawk engine detailing last
winter using the picture from Ed Reynold's book as my guide but
the picture in his book was a little grainy. The same picture
is in the new Super Studebakers book and it is crystal clear.
I would happily have purchased the book just for that picture.

I think we have a mistake here. According to Ron Ellerbe of Jet Thrust News there were two 64 R-1 hawks painted Avanti maroon not two R-2 Hawks. Being the owner of ser.#17830, the first of the two I would really have to see one of these cars I guess I'll have to buy the book.

Sometimes you have to call a spade a spade John. I am not sure why you are hyping this book. I figure you have some "political connection" though with the powers that are involved in the book and need a favor. The book is a rip off.

I posted this on the Studebaker Newsgroup:

I just received the publication, "Super Studebakers" from the
Studebaker National Museum. I am actually dissapointed with this
$35.00 publication that consists of 36 pages and counts the cover and
table of contents as pages 1 and 2.

Most of the information can be found in Turning Wheels back issues and
Jet Thrust News newsletters. There are a some interesting pictures
(eight total) but that is about it. I will keep it and consider it a
quasi donation to the museum. I just expected more and was looking
forward to reading it but that only took me about 5 minutes.

Studedude1961 echoes Studedude's sentiments. If you have a beef take it off forum with John personally.

I have taken this up with John and stand by what I said. The book is a rip off and there is no point in trying to make it out as something you should rush out and buy.
